We all know that we have some remarkable examples of how students and teachers are leveraging the power of technology to empower and develop deep-sustained learning but how do we get these sparks of innovation to spread throughout our entire district to create and cultivate a new learning culture? This year’s TechFest is all about fanning the flame. We are coming together to be challenged, collaborate and share our visions and practices for moving forward in the digital learning frontier.

How My Student's Reading Comprehension Skyrocketed

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The discussion tool in Canvas has provided my students with the ability to engage in the most fruitful and in depth analysis of a text that I have ever enjoyed in my teaching career.

I'll show you how I set the stage to provide the purpose for reading in a discussion topic and allow them a private space to read, write and think collaboratively as they work to understand complex texts together. In doing this, my students teach other key ideas in the text and essentially engage in community reading outside the classroom!

I love to use technology to engage students in the love of literature and language! When I'm not working with students, I enjoy reading, traveling, or being in the wilderness surrounded by mountains and the splendor of Mother Earth! A main motivator for my love of technology is its easier softer use of the planet--NO MORE PAPER; NO MORE BENT BACKS FOR STUDENTS!; DIGITAL AGE HERE WE COME!
