We all know that we have some remarkable examples of how students and teachers are leveraging the power of technology to empower and develop deep-sustained learning but how do we get these sparks of innovation to spread throughout our entire district to create and cultivate a new learning culture? This year’s TechFest is all about fanning the flame. We are coming together to be challenged, collaborate and share our visions and practices for moving forward in the digital learning frontier.

A Picture in Time: Tales of a Photo Essay Project

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

A lot of people think photo class is just a hobby. Not true! I’ll take you on a tour of our photo essay project and show you how to structure a learning unit that aligns with the Common Core standards, while requiring students to master skills at each step of the way. Projects are a perfect way to create an environment in which students are challenged to think critically, collaborate, and be creative. We all know these are key ingredients for success in both the classroom and the workplace but how do you personalize your instruction and implement projects so the students thrive and you survive?

Time is our nemesis! We never seem to have enough time to keep up with it all, but with the help of technology, I was able to develop an efficient workflow which maximized my interactions with my students and provide them the support they needed to master both content and skills. As a bonus, I’ll also show how giving feedback for learning and grading is as ‘easy as a swipe’ using the iPad SpeedGrader App.
