We all know that we have some remarkable examples of how students and teachers are leveraging the power of technology to empower and develop deep-sustained learning but how do we get these sparks of innovation to spread throughout our entire district to create and cultivate a new learning culture? This year’s TechFest is all about fanning the flame. We are coming together to be challenged, collaborate and share our visions and practices for moving forward in the digital learning frontier.

The Textbook Transformation

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Say goodbye to the textbook as we’ve known it! The shift to digital publishing is creating seismic changes in how teachers and students engage in instructional content. Publishers are taking a different approach to content delivery, with more emphasis on curating and organizing the electronic content that exists and offering it in modular, bite-size pieces. Digital content will look less like the static PDF and more like the interactive applications that live on your iPad. See how the new tools for learning integrate video, student collaboration, video-gaming strategies, and embedded assessments. We will explore examples of iBooks textbooks from the major publishers, iTunes U Courses created by K12 educators, and textbook-like apps with a proven track record for improving student performance.

Learning is being transformed daily with new digital forms of information access, presentation and interaction between the two. I am intensely interested in the match between these new forms of learning and our individual brains. It's a very dynamic time in education and an opportunity for innovation!
